The meat is tender and juicy, with a slightly chewy texture that's perfect for slow-cooking or braising. Lamb shanks have a slightly gamey taste that's often described as earthy or grassy.
Cooking Methods
Season the lamb shanks with salt and pepper, then place them in a slow cooker. Add any vegetables or other ingredients you prefer, such as potatoes, carrots, onions, or garlic. Add enough liquid, such as broth or wine, to partially cover the shanks. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, or until the meat is tender and falls off the bone.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the lamb shanks with creamy mashed potatoes, roasted root vegetables, and a side of red wine gravy.
